Valentine’s Day is often regarded as a day between couples. Traditionally, it’s when two people celebrate the romantic love in their lives.
Sometimes, though, it’s good to have a little reminder about all forms of love in the world. Be it it friend or family; neighbour or colleague, love comes in many shapes and sizes.
For one gin distillery, this sentiment is particularly true. Tissues at the ready; Broken Heart Gin has possibly the saddest story you will ever hear.
It was originally developed by two Germans living in New Zealand who grew to become good friends. However, one of them tragically became ill and died, leaving the other to share the gin with the world alone.
The gin’s name is a representation of its story. It’s a reminder that as much as a broken heart hurts, it’s also a space to be filled with new beginnings. In this case, co-creator Joerg dedicated this gin to his friend’s memory.
This gin has notes of fresh floral and citrus that was developed by the pair. Its bottle design is also deeply poignant.
It features a dominant broken heart logo, in which one side appears to cleverly fade. Its glass design with silver details gives a feeling of transparency.
Although typically unavailable in the UK, we also adore the design of the distillery’s Quince Gin. With a slightly more upbeat message, this edition celebrates love, fertility & immortality. Its golden colouring complete with gold and red detail makes our heart skip a beat.
Meanwhile, if you need us, we’ll be lamenting over all the love that exists in our lives each and everyday. ❤
