10 Purple Cocktails That Are Simply Out of This World


Recently, you might have noticed a lot of love across the internet for purple gin. Whether it’s Sweet Violet Gin turning heads with its crazy Parma Violets taste or Boë bringing violet gin to the people, there’s a whole new shade of gin on the scene.

One to add to the purple gin list is Empress 1908. New to the UK in 2018, the gin is actually a colour changing gin. It’s technically not a ‘violet’ or ‘purple gin’ at all but it sure makes incredible mauve cocktails.

Empress & Tonic

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
3 oz Premium tonic water
Grapefruit slice

Build on ice in a rocks glass. Stir well.  Garnish with a grapefruit slice.


Empress 75

1 ½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
¾ oz Fresh lemon juice
½ oz Simple syrup
Sparkling wine

Shake on ice, double strain into a chilled flute, top with sparkling wine. Garnish with a lemon twist.


Windsor Garden

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
½ oz Fresh lemon juice
½ oz Simple syrup
Basil, thyme and mint leaves

Shake ingredients on ice, strain into a stemless wine glass with ice. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.


Empress Martini

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
½ oz Lillet Blanc

Stir on ice, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist.


Q 1908

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
¾ oz Fresh lemon juice
¾ oz Simple syrup
¾ oz Egg white

Dry shake, wet shake, double strain. Garnish with edible flowers.


Southside

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
¾ oz Fresh lime juice
¾ oz Simple syrup
Mint leaves

Muddle, shake on ice, and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a mint leaf and a premium cherry.


Royal Treatment

1 ½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
3 oz White cranberry juice
Sparkling wine

Build in a stemless wine glass. Garnish with kiwi slices (skins removed), raspberries, blackberries and a mint leaf.


Empress of Aviation

2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
½ oz Maraschino liqueur
½ oz Fresh lemon juice

Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.


Empress Negroni

1 ½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
¾ oz Luxardo Bitter Bianco
¾ oz Dry vermouth

Stir on ice. Strain into a glass with a large ice cube or sphere. Garnish with a wide grapefruit twist


Royal Hawaiian

1 ½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
1 ½ oz Unsweetened pineapple juice
½ oz Fresh lemon juice
1 tsp Orgeat syrup

Shake all ingredients except gin with ice. Strain into glass with crushed ice, layer gin on top. Garnish with a pineapple wedge.
