It’s no secret that gin has cropped up a number of times on the hit TV show Dragons’ Den. With the tipple only surging in popularity, it’s no wonder there are so many new business ideas blossoming.
One such company to challenge the Dragons for their money is the makers of Collagin. Also known as boozy brand Young in Spirit, these two business women pitched their gin infused with collagen to Touker Suleyman, Tej Lalvani, Jenny Campbell, Deborah Meadon and Peter Jones.
In an episode for the BBC on Sunday evening (9 September), the dynamic duo – Camilla Brown and Liz Beswick – delivered a confident pitch with little to no grilling from the panel.
Remarkably, the entrepreneurs left with a £50,000 investment from Tej and Touker, with Touker being sold on the idea almost instantly.
The pair impressed with their ability to take their own product to market and become a big contender in a saturated world.
The unique addition to the bottle not only helped to make the gin standout, but the business proposal. With Dragon Tej Lalvani famed for his vitamin company, it seemed an ideal pairing.
Collagen is a protein in the body that is also available in supplement form. It’s said to have several health benefits including better skin and the relief of joint pain.
Also known widely in the media as ‘anti-ageing gin’ Collagin may not be the fountain of youth but it is said to elasticate the skin. The classy bottle and soft pink box is particularly marketable to female gin lovers.
It certainly seems as if the company is going from strength to strength, with both John Lewis and Ocado now stocking the range.
Unlike previous successors of Dragons’ Den, House of Elrick Gin, it appears the duo have in fact kept the deal in place and look to thrive off the Dragons experience.
We raise a glass to their success!
Collagin (50cl) is available now over on the Amazon for £34.95.
