Lidl launches Hortus Plum Gin Liqueur and it’s infused with cinnamon spice

It’s good news for those who can’t get enough of wintry flavours in their glass. Nothing says cosy night in more than a glass of Lidl’s Plum Gin Liqueur, which will soon be hitting the supermarket shelves.

Not only is it infused with the flavour of rich plums, but ginger, nutmeg, clove and cinnamon combine to give it a real festive kick.

It’s likely you’ve enjoyed creating spiced cloved oranges in the run up to Christmas; now meet the latest seasonal update. Spiced plum is looking like a hot trend, with Aldi also recently launching their very own equivalent.

What’s fantastic about gin liqueurs is how versatile they can be. We’ve often spoken about how adding it to Prosecco can make for a truly delicious combo, in fact Lidl’s previous release Pomegranate and Rose is perfect for this.

This time around, however, this plum and cinnamon offering is said to be at its best when heated up warm.

Mulled gin is most definitely what you need in cold weather and this liqueur makes for the perfect hot toddy.

The perfect serve

For the perfect serve, Lidl’s Spirits expert, Tristan Stephenson, recommends the Winter Orchard Warmer:

  •  250ml Hortus Plum and Cinnamon Gin Liqueur
  • 700ml cloudy apple juice
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 50g honey

Put all ingredients in a glass bottle then loosely screw the lid on. Place the bottle in a pan of water and bring to a simmer. Leave to infuse for 10 minutes, then remove the bottle using a towel, and pour into handled glasses. Finish by garnishing with star anise.

To discover more about Hortus Gin, Lidl recently launched a brand new House of Hortus pop-up gin experience which will tour across the UK this autumn and winter.

Hortus Plum and Cinnamon Gin Liqueur is available this weekend from Lidl stores for £11.99.
