Gin of Thrones: A cocktail of ice and fire

game of thrones cocktails

WARNING: GOT spoilers ahead – do not read these Game of Thrones cocktails recipes if you’re not caught up!

The long night is finally over. Game of Thrones season 8 has arrived and we can barely contain our excitement to see how this story will end. Will our heroes defeat the Night King? Which of our favourites will survive the wars to come? And most importantly, who will sit the iron throne when all is said and done?

Now I’m not sure about you, but I feel like I’m going to need a large drink to get through the battle with the white walkers and the army of the dead. That’s why we’ve put together two maester-ful (pardon the pun) Game of Thrones cocktails, inspired by our favourite star-crossed lovers/aunt and nephew: Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen.

Just remember, no matter how this season ends… the night is dark and full of gin!

Ice (Jon Snow) – Winter is Coming

It’s proper northern drink, Jon Snow.

The northerners don’t muck about when it comes to their alcohol – or anything for that matter – so neither have we. Blue curacao and navy-strength gin come together to produce this potent cocktail, with a colour as vibrantly blue as the eyes of a wight.

  • 50ml blue curacao
  • 25ml navy-strength gin
  • A dash of orange bitters
  • Lots of ice

  1. Swirl the orange bitters around the edge of your cocktail glass.
  2. Fill the glass with a mountain of ice.
  3. Shake the gin and blue curacao together with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  4. Pour into a martini glass and sip away.

Fire (Daenerys Targaryen) – Fire & Blood

Daenerys Targaryen isn’t a woman you want to mess with. She’s fireproof, she’s got two dragons (RIP Viserion) and she doesn’t take nonsense from anyone.

This fruity and spicy cocktail perfectly embodies Dany’s fiery personality. If you’re making this at home, be very careful while setting this aflame. Dany may be able to withstand flames but it’s probably best if you wait for them to die down before drinking!

  • 50ml navy-strength gin
  • 20ml grapefruit juice
  • 10ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 25ml cherry liqueur
  • 10ml cinnamon syrup
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup

  1. Shake all of your ingredients, minus the gin, in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a martini glass.
  2. Top carefully with the navy-strength gin.
  3. Optional: carefully set your drink aflame!

… And what do we say to the God of hangovers? NOT. TODAY.
