All The Winners from The Scottish Gin Awards 2019

scottish gin awards winners 2019

At a packed venue, full of all the glamour and tartan you’d expect to see at a Scottish gin event, Scotland celebrated its burgeoning gin industry with the Scottish Gin Awards 2019.

Taking place at the stylish Hilton Doubletree in Glasgow, the national awards spotlighted the incredible diversity of gin from across the country, with categories being awarded in business, taste and innovation.

The winners were revealed following a rigorous judging process involving 30 gin experts from across the UK, who assessed 104 written entries and blind tasted a delicious sounding 173 gins – all of which were distilled and bottled in Scotland.

The top prize on the evening, Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year, was awarded to Caithness-based Dunnet Bay Distillers, following their enormous growth and expansion of their Rock Rose Gin range and commitment to sustainable business practices, community engagement and investment in their local area.

The biggest winner on the night, however, was a small West of Scotland distiller who make just a tiny batch of gin for a local deli.

Lenzie Gin, who use cranberry and locally grown bilberry to create their unique gin, bested 44 others to win gold in the London Dry Gin of the Year and Gin of the Year categories.

Other winners on the night included the likes of Edinburgh Gin, who took a collection of awards including Best Marketing Campaign, while last year’s Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year, Isle of Harris Distillers, were recognised as the Exporter of the Year.

The awards cermony, which is now in its third year, was supported by sponsors Aldi, Schweppes, Vetroelite and the Scottish Distillers Association.

The awards also helped to raise donations for two nominated charities, The BEN, the Benevolent Society of the Licensed Trade of Scotland, and My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, set up by Scottish Rugby Legend Doddie Weir to help those suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.
