Whitby the Barghest Edition is a gin unlike any you have tasted, or seen, before. This is a gin that celebrates Whitby’s gothic history.
An omen of death, the Barghest is a mystical beast said to stalk the cobbled streets of Whitby on cold, dark, misty nights.
Just like the monstrous hound in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the Barghest takes the form of a jet black dog, the colour of which has been the inspiration for this latest edition of Whitby Gin.
To reflect the pivotal moment in Bram Stoker’s novel when the dog bounds up the emblematic 199 steps to reach the Abbey, each batch of The Barghest Edition will contain just 199 bottles.
Developed from Whitby’s international award-winning Whitby Gin, The Barghest Edition gin is laid to rest in Transylvanian Oak Casks taking on flavours of vanilla and caramel. The oak-aged gin is then gorged in 100% British blackberries and ginger to create a spirit as impressive in appearance as it is on the palate.
The Barghest Edition is almost black to the naked eye but, once diluted, takes on a blood red hue which would surely tempt even Dracula himself.
The distinctive flavour of their signature botanicals is complimented by the sweetness of the red fruits whilst oak ageing adds a fierce warmth.
The Barghest is enjoyable on the rocks as well as a gin and tonic.
Just fill a glass with lots of chunky ice and add 150 ml of Premium tonic. Then add 50ml of The Barghest Edition and watch the blood red hue deep through the ice. Garnish with a slice of ginger and blackberries.
Available on Whitby Distillery’s website for £57.00 (70 cl, 47% ABV).
