Twisted Gin Navy Strength is a powerful 57% gin flavoured with strawberries and pink peppercorns.
A Little Bit of Background
The Afterthought Spirits Company use a twist on a 17th Century distilling method to produce their gin. They believe that their use of traditional methods, coupled with a modern twist, results in deliciously smooth gins, with unique flavour profiles.
They take a base of key traditional botanicals and twist things up with some new and exciting flavours. This allows them to create gins that are truly reflective of the “old ways”, while bringing something new to the table.
I love the Twisted Gin packaging, as mentioned in my previous review of their Premium Gin (which by the way was also very tasty).
The bottle is made of a black porcelain, which always looks classy, and is warped in a way that looks like the bottle has been twisted. It’s then printed with a wax seal, the twisted logo and two sketches depicting their key botanicals – strawberry and pink peppercorn.
Twisted Gin Navy Strength Perfect Serve
The signature serve for this gin is:
- 50ml Gin
- 150ml Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic
- Handful of ice
- Any garnish you like (we recommend fresh strawberries)
On the Nose
Pop the stopper and you are greeted with a sweet and fruity aroma. The strawberry notes definitely take the lead here. Following the sweet, berry scent are the more traditional gin boanicals – juniper, coriander and angelia.
Although incredibly powerful, this 57% gin is surprisingly tasty neat. Its lovely and sweet, with a slightly viscous and velvety texture. Sugary, floral notes from the meadowsweet mix with strawberry and small hints of spice – with a full whack of juniper on the finish.
An addition of tonic allows some of the more subtle flavours to come out to play. You can definitely taste the pink peppercorns. I’m also sure I can taste liquorice although apparently there’s none in there. Twisted Gin Navy Strength is actually a very pleasant gin to drink, despite it’s firey alcohol content!
Twisted gin is a fantastic navy strength, that would make a great addition to any gin cupboard or a very afforable gift for a gin lover.
